§ At the first visit we will check the infant’s weight and compare it to birth and discharge weights. Normal newborns can lose up to 8% of their body weight in the first five days and not achieve birth weight until 10 days of age. Normal weight gain is about an ounce a day for the next several months.
§ We do a complete exam and check that there have been no changes since the hospital exam. We particularly want to know if you have noticed anything different about your child since discharge.
§ We check the status of the umbilical cord and circumcision (if present) plus the skin color for jaundice.
§ We review any concerns or questions you may have.
