§         At the two-month visit a complete exam is done and the infant receives his/her first set of immunizations (other than the Hepatitis B received in the hospital).

§         Immunizations include Hepatitis B, DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus, and acellular pertussis), polio, HIB (Hemophilus influenza type B) Prevnar (Pneumoccocus) and Rotavirus. Detailed information on these vaccines can be obtained by clicking on the links for each vaccine above.

§         The two-month old infant is still exclusively breast or formula feeding. Solid food (cereal or baby food) should not be introduced until the baby is at least 4 months old. This is advised to decrease the development for food allergies since babies at this age still have very porous intestinal membranes. In addition we suspect from obesity research that premature feeding of solids increases the risk for developing obesity and diabetes later in life. We are currently facing an epidemic of obesity in our children.

§         Do not put cereal in the bottle ! This is a common and out-dated practice – even if grandmother says it will make the child sleep better.
